Sushi Kitchen, Penang

Happy Dinner (Me and my mum)

Sushi Kitchen is well known among vegetarians in Penang Island. This is because this Japanese restaurant is promoting healthy and environmental protection by serving Organic, Plant-based diet, and Vegan (eggless) dishes. Besides that, their fruits and vegetables are soaked in enzyme for 45 minutes. By doing this, it removes all harmful fertilizer, bacteria etc.

They have 2 branches in Penang. One is in Sg Ara which I visited frequently and another is in Georgetown. This is the first time I visited the branch in Georgetown.

Upon entering inside this small restaurant, we noticed that the place is quite dark but A very traditional Japanese themed ambiance.  Along both sides of the walls were heavily written graffiti of words, both in Chinese and English, by their customers.

High Energy and High Fiber Food
Say 9 NO's to their ingredients:-
No MSG
No Artificial Colouring
No Preservatives
No White Salt
No White Sugar
No Meat
No Egg
No Garlic and Onion
No Microwave

The restaurant has 9 principles of YES and NO.  Insisting on never using microwaves, white salt, white sugar, no MSG, no artificial colouring and no preservatives.  Whilst at the same time, priding themselves on using ingredients such as brown sugar, Himalayan pink salt, natural seasoning and everything being 100% vegan and organic.

Sushi Kitchen have a variety of different sushi options in the menu, this time we decided to go for Happiness Family.  It is a sushi platter, with a total of five different types of sushi on the plate with a total of 16 pieces of sushi.

The menu has a wide range of predominantly Japanese dishes, but food from other cuisines can also be found on the menu.

Lunch at Wai Kee Char Siew - Sky Restaurant, Lebuh Chulia, Georgetown

Had lunch at Wai Kee Char Siew - Sky Restaurant, Lebuh Chulia, Georgetown, Penang. If you enter Chulia Street through Penang Road, go straight until you see a green color building (Sky Hotel) on your left.

Waited around 15 minutes for the dishes to arrive on the table. :)

Upon arrival at around 12pm, the restaurant is already filled with a lot of people. Some were even standing behind those who were about to finish eating.

We ordered Char Siew (Chinese flavored barbeque meat). Beside the Char Siew, we also ordered several other item like roasted pork, Chinese sausage, steam vegetable and soup. My favourite is the Chinese sausage because the sausage is kind of unique. The ingredient is being marinated with honey and some spices then filled into the sausage’s skin. After that, roasted to perfection.

Location:
Sky Hotel Char Siew Rice @ Chulia Street
Chulia Street, off Jalan Masjid, 10200 Penang.

The colour of red is important for chinese. According to the legends, the beginning of Chinese New Year started with the fight against a beast called the Nian or "Year" in Chinese. Nian would come on the first day of New Year to kill livestock, crops, and children.

The villagers would put some food in front of their doors at the beginning of every year and believed that after the Nian ate the food they prepared, it wouldn’t attack any more people.

Once, people saw the Nian was scared away by a little child wearing red, they then understood that the Nian was afraid of the color red.

Hence, every time when New Year is about to come, the villagers would hang red lanterns and spring scroll on windows and doors.

People also use firecrackers to frighten the Nian and from then on, the Nian never came to the village again.

Visiting Sam's Groceria

Ever wonder Sam's Groceria is originated from where? You guess it right.
This high class supermarket is originated from Malaysia.
This retailer pays homage to its local roots since SAM is an abbreviation of "Saya Anak Malaysia" (I am a child of Malaysia).

The entrance

Interesting about this retail is that they have easy-to-use Self Scan system for shoppers. We just need to scan each item's barcode and the unit tracks your purchases and displays a running total. When you're ready to check out, all you need to do is give the scanner unit to the cashier and pay.

We bought the fresh steak for home cooking later

I'm so excited to have this addition to the Penang grocery scene.

Ah Lai Cafe under Big Tree, Gat Lebuh Gereja

Famously known for “Cafe Under The Big Tree” for its unique location, this cafe is famous for their Maggie Noodles (Curry maggie, Tomyum maggie, Chicken maggie, etc) and variety types of toasted bread.

Clothes from Myss Closet

As for drinks, based on the recommendations in Foursquare is their 'Cham Peng', which is a mixture of Coffee and Tea.

Their "Kopi Peng" is actually quite nice too and is recommended.

Maggie Noodles with sausages and eggs which is RM4.50 per bowl. Additional RM1.00 for cheese.

If coming from Weld Quey, turn left into Gat Lebuh Gereja and you can see the DSOP building (yellow building). Keep driving for another 200m and you will see the Cafe located under the tree on your right

Their service is quite slow and you may have to wait for a long time especially when there is a lot of customers. This is understandable as they don't have a lot of workers.
So it is not recommended to you if you don't have the patience.

Food Note: Mizi Bistro at Tesco Tanjung Pinang

We visited Mizi Bistro for dinner. This Mizi Bistro was located at Tesco Tanjung Pinang . They have another 2 branches in Penang Island (One is at New World Park & another one at Prangin Mall Level 3, JL Gourmet). This is the first time I visited the branch in Tesco Tanjung Pinang, I usually go to their branch in New World Park.
Normally we will order in set but this time we ordered ala carte because I'm still feeling full. The set costs RM 25. The set contains 1 drink, 1 soup, 1 main meal and unlimited scoops of ice-cream. It is considered reasonable priced as the portion of food is big.

One of their famous food is Mushroom soup but we did not order. This time we ordered Chicken chop Hailam and Aglio E Olio Spaghetti.

Chicken chop Hailam @ RM17.00 (Nice)

Closed shot of Chicken chop Hailam @ RM17.00

Aglio E Olio Spaghetti @ RM15.00
